The Danish have a word that basically means appreciating life's simple pleasures that word is "hygge" pronounced "hoo-ga" and this principle is just a part of everyday life for Danes and all Scandinavians and even though they live in some of the coldest parts of the world they still manage to be some of the happiest people around.
Hygge home favours things that are well made, simple and beautiful. It is far better to have a few good quality pieces you love than many cheaper pieces that you look upon with indifference.
The pleasure that is created by those few things is very hygge.
Simplicity in your home helps clear the way for the appreciation of simple things in life. Natutal materials, neutral or muted colour schemes accompanied by layered textures for cosiness, fabrics, throws, woollen rugs and faux fur are ideal for cosy corners and relaxing nights with intimate conversation.
The importance of lighting is critical when creating the right atmosphere.
Candles are not just for romance but they can help! Warm soft low lighting is a must for the hygge home and when it is enhanced with your favourite fragrance that's even better.
We even have unscented natural wax, glass container candles candles, we call them 'Naked' to enhance without creating a fragrance overload.
Ideally one or two fragrant candles with two or three 'Naked' candles. Now that is getting intimate!
